Paid WiFi site survey
A measured survey of your building that produces a signal heat map floor by floor, a scan of the competing networks and non WiFi interference around you, a channel and power plan, and a written recommendation naming specific access point models and mounting locations. The survey fee is credited toward the installation if you have us do the work.
The survey is the part of this business that is actual engineering rather than guesswork, and it is the reason a design from us tends to need fewer access points than a design from a company that sells by the unit.
What is included
- Signal strength and signal to noise measurements taken room by room, on every floor
- A heat map showing actual coverage, not a simulation from a marketing brochure
- A spectrum and channel scan showing which channels your neighbors have taken
- A written plan naming access point count, models, and mounting points
- The plan is yours to keep, including if you hire somebody else to install it
What moves the price
- Square footage and number of floors
- Construction type, since block, stucco with wire lath, and foil backed insulation all attenuate differently
- Whether a detached building needs a point to point link across the property
- Whether outbuildings, a detached garage, a pool deck, or a dock need coverage
- Whether the building already has network wiring, which decides how much has to go over the air
Ranges come from the assessment, once somebody has looked at the building. We do not publish a headline number because it would be wrong for most houses.
Questions people actually ask
Why would I pay for a survey when other companies quote for free?
A free quote is a guess at how many access points to sell you. A survey measures what your building actually does to a signal, which is the only way to know where the equipment has to go. Block construction, foil backed insulation, and stucco over wire lath can each cut a signal by more than half, and no two houses do it the same way.
What do I actually receive?
A floor by floor heat map, a list of the competing networks and interference sources on your channels, a channel and transmit power plan, and a written recommendation naming specific models and mounting locations. It is a document you own and can hand to any installer.
Is the survey fee refunded?
It is credited toward your installation if we do the work. If you take the plan elsewhere, you keep the plan and we keep the fee, which is fair to both of us.
