What it costs
No guessing, and no surprise at the door.
Two things here have a price printed on them. Everything else gets a number only after somebody has measured your house, because a price given before that is a guess, and a guess either loses the job or gets paid for by you. If you want to see the measuring first, here is what it produces.
The short version.
- Free
- The first call, half an hour at most, by phone or video. What you own now, what the house is doing, and which of these fits. No visit and no diagnosis at this step, because neither happens without a meter. Plenty of them end with the answer that nothing needs changing.
- $75
- Every room measured with a meter, plus the garage, the lanai and anywhere outside you want a device to work. You keep a written page with a number for each spot. Normally $125, introductory price right now, and up to $75 of it comes off a designed installation.
- $249 to $749
- Setting up equipment you already own. One visit, one price, and each package states exactly how many units, how many devices and how many hours it covers.
- Quoted
- A designed system for a whole house, which runs $600 to $1,500 in labor for most houses, plus links to detached buildings and camera design, which vary too much to range. Priced after the measuring, never before it, and you buy your own equipment.
I come out and measure
Every room, the garage, the porch, the patio, out by the pool. Beside every number is a plain sentence saying whether a video call will hold up there.
That page is yours to keep no matter what you decide. If you hire somebody else, hand it to them.
- Up to 2,000 sq ft
- Measured room by room with survey software, not estimated by eye
- The garage, the lanai, the porch, and anywhere outside you want a device to work
- About 45 minutes, start to finish
- 2,000 to 3,000 sq ft
- Every room on every floor, and upstairs is where most homes fail
- The garage, the lanai, the porch, and anywhere outside you want a device to work
- About 60 minutes, start to finish
- 3,000 to 5,000 sq ft
- Every room on every floor, plus the wings a smaller house does not have
- The garage, the lanai, the porch, the pool deck, and the yard you actually use
- About 75 minutes, start to finish
- Every room, every floor, and every wing
- Outbuildings walked as well, since a detached building is a separate problem
- About 90 minutes, start to finish
Every one of them includes a written finding you keep, whatever you decide afterward.
These are introductory prices and they are half of the normal ones. When the offer ends this page will say so rather than leave a crossed out number sitting here forever.
| Where | Reading | What that means |
|---|---|---|
| Living room | -46 | Right next to it |
| Primary bedroom | -64 | Video calls still hold up |
| Bedroom three | -78 | Says connected, nothing loads |
Every room gets a line like this, plus the garage, the lanai and anywhere outside you want a device to work. See the whole page.
Setting up equipment you already bought
I put the boxes where the meter says they belong, set everything up, and get your other gadgets connected. Which package you are in comes down to how many boxes and how many gadgets need doing one at a time, and I settle that on the phone before anything is booked.
- Up to two mesh or access point units
- Up to ten smart home devices that have to be set up by hand
- Up to two and a half hours in the house
- One building. A detached garage or workshop is a different job
- Up to four mesh or access point units
- Up to twenty smart home devices that have to be set up by hand
- Up to three and a half hours in the house
- One building. A detached garage or workshop is a different job
- Up to six mesh or access point units
- Up to thirty smart home devices that have to be set up by hand
- Up to four and a half hours in the house
- One building. A detached garage or workshop is a different job
- Up to ten mesh or access point units
- Up to fifty smart home devices that have to be set up by hand
- Up to six hours in the house
- Outbuildings included, since at this size there usually is one
Time past your package's limit is $125 an hour, agreed before I carry on rather than after. If it looks like more than that from the start, one of the other packages is the better fit and I will say so on the call.
Everything else
These get a number after I measure, not before.
Not because it is a secret. The honest answer depends on your building, and anybody who quotes one of these over the phone is guessing at how much equipment to sell you.
A whole house, set up from scratch
For a house too big, too tall, or too solid for one box to cover. Usually three to six boxes, placed where the measuring says.
The detail on this oneGetting the signal out to a garage, workshop, or barn
Two small antennas point at each other across the yard. Nobody digs up your lawn.
The detail on this oneCameras
Where they go, what each one needs to see, how much video you can keep, and setting it up so strangers cannot get in from the internet. Someone else puts them on the wall.
The detail on this oneA business
Offices, warehouses, schools, churches. Sized on how many people are in a room at the busiest minute, not on the floor area.
The detail on this oneThree things about money, said up front.
I do not sell you equipment
You buy your own and it ships to your door. I make nothing on the hardware and you are not paying a markup hidden inside a bigger number.
You hear the price before the work
Nobody is ever billed for time they did not agree to first. If a job turns out bigger than I both thought, I stop, tell you what is left, and you decide.
Often the answer is to do nothing
If your house is small and open, the box your internet company gave you is probably fine. I would rather say that on a free call than after you have paid me.
Start with the free consult
Up to thirty minutes, by phone or video, and it costs nothing. We go through what equipment you have now, what the house is doing, and which of the services here actually fits. Often the answer is that you do not need me yet.
