Privacy

What we keep, and what we never had.

Most of this page is about things we do not do. That is not modesty, it is how the site is built: there is no login, no shopping cart, and nothing to track you with.

The short version.

We do not sell your information, share it, or put you on a list. Apart from the services named below that carry it for us, the only people who see what you send us are us. Ask us to delete it and we will, the same day. Email help@wifiandmore.com.

What the website itself does

The pages are plain files. There is no advertising network anywhere on this site, nothing here is sold or shared, and nothing follows you to other websites.

There is one exception to "no third party" and it is worth being specific about. We use Microsoft Clarity to see which pages people read and where they give up. It records how a page is used: scrolling, where a cursor goes, which links get tapped. It sets two cookies to tell one visit from the next. We use it to find the parts of this site that are confusing, and for nothing else.

What it cannot see is what you type into a form. Clarity blanks out the contents of every text box and dropdown before anything leaves your browser, on every site that uses it, and that is not a setting we could get wrong. Your name, your email address and whatever you write about your house are not in a recording.

The address bar is the exception, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise. Two pages here put your own words into the address of the page, and the blanking above does not reach an address. When you use the search box, what you searched for is in the address. When you finish the planner, your answers are in the address, the town included, so that you can bookmark the result, print it or send it to somebody. Both are on purpose: the search works that way with JavaScript switched off, and a result nobody can pass on is worth less than one they can. The practical version is that we can see what people search for and what they told the planner, and we use it to work out which words this site is getting wrong.

If you would rather not be included, there are three ways and we would rather tell you them than pretend the option is not there. Clarity honours Global Privacy Control, which some browsers send for you. Microsoft also takes the advertising industry opt out at optout.aboutads.info. And any of the usual tracker blocking extensions stop it outright. Nothing on this site breaks if you use any of them.

One thing we will not tell you is that the old "Do Not Track" browser tickbox works here, because Microsoft's own documentation says Clarity does not respond to it. Global Privacy Control is the one that does.

The company that hosts the site keeps ordinary server records, the way every web host does. We do not read them and they are not joined to anything else.

When you send us a form

That goes to a separate service with its own database, which is deliberate: the website has no database and holds no secrets, so a mistake on the website cannot expose anything about you.

What is stored:

  • Your name and email address, and your phone number if you gave one
  • Your town, and your business name if you gave one
  • What you told us about the building and what is not working
  • The answers you gave the planner, if you used it. Square footage, floors, construction, what equipment you own, how many smart devices you have
  • Which page you were on when you sent it
  • Your browser's name and version, which every web request carries anyway

When you book a consult

Picking a time for the free consult happens on Cal.com, a scheduling service, on its own site rather than this one. Nothing from Cal.com loads on these pages: the booking button is an ordinary link.

What you enter there, your name, email address, phone number, town and anything you write about the house, is held by Cal.com to run the booking, and sent on to us, where it joins your enquiry if you already sent one. Cal.com puts the appointment in our calendar and sends you the confirmation. How Cal.com handles it is set out in its own privacy policy. Cancelling or moving the consult is done from the link in that confirmation.

Your IP address is not stored

This one is worth spelling out. Rather than keeping the address your internet connection is using, the service turns it into a one way code and keeps only that. The code lets us notice a hundred junk submissions arriving from one place. It cannot be turned back into an address, by us or by anybody else.

Who sees it

We do. A notification email is sent to us when an enquiry arrives, which passes through the company that sends our mail, the same way any email does. A consult booked online also passes through Cal.com, as described above.

Nobody else. We do not sell enquiries, we do not trade them, we do not hand them to lead generation companies, and there is no advertising network involved anywhere on this site.

Surveys, and what is in your house

A survey records the layout of your home, which rooms you use, and where the equipment is. If cameras are part of the job it records where they point. We treat that as more sensitive than your contact details, because it is.

The finding is yours. We keep a copy for our own records so we can help you later without starting again. We never publish a customer's readings, address, or photographs of their home. The example page on how we work is an invented example, not anybody's house, and it says so on it.

Where we design a camera system, we do not hold your footage and we have no way to watch it. The recorder and the storage are yours.

Having it deleted

Email help@wifiandmore.com and say so. You do not need a reason and you do not need to have been a customer. Your enquiry and everything attached to it is removed, permanently, not hidden or flagged. It takes a couple of minutes and we will tell you when it is done. If you booked a consult, we cancel it, and Cal.com keeps its own record of the booking under the policy linked above.

You can also ask us what we hold about you, and we will send it to you.

How long we keep it

While a job is live, and afterward for our own records, so that somebody coming back in two years does not have to explain their house again. We have not set a fixed period. If you would rather we did not keep yours, see above.

Children

This is a service for homeowners and businesses. Nothing here is aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

If this changes

The date below changes with it. This page describes how the site and the service are actually built, so if one of them changes, this changes too.
